Gadget windows vista norton

On Microsoft Answers forum, seems to indicate it will come as a security update. I just ran check for Microsoft Updates and received nothing. Calls wrote: this is so way messed up. I just ran check for Microsoft Updates and received nothing Who knows?

It's not clear from the above whether you want it or want to avoid it! Well I'm not sure myself. Here is my concern. If Microsoft recommends it be disabled for security reasons, how would the average user know that? I only know about it because the post here. If it is such a big security issues, shouldn't it be a security update? In Microsoft answers, there is a response from a microsoft staff about it coming as an update. But as I say, I have updates set for check everyday and have reived no such update.

So again, how is the average user to know? Thats my biggest concern. Hu you said if you are not an average user, you have nothing to worry about But I am an average user whats real interesting is there is very little dialogue on the microsoft answers forums about this issue. Calls, If you are really concerned about this I suggest you run the fix-it tool that Yank posted a link to here.

I read about in the Microsoft Blogs If I knew for sure the security issue had to do with actual gadgets and not the side bar itself, I'd leave mine alone.

I have seen a kind of overview of whats being presented on this issue at the conference. Seems to indicate the side bar on its own will be a vulnerability. Guess we'll see what happens after that info is presented, as to what will be the safe course of action.

I think I wont do anything until then. After restart sidebat gadgets were gone. So disabling gadgets has really no impact for me. Guess we'll find out what all the fuss is about on Friday. Just one other question related to this that I hope folks can enlighten me on. Clicked on the appropriate fixit 3. SAVED the fixit toll to my desktop 4.

Scanned it with Norton just to be safe 5. Clicked it and THEN selected run since I use a limited user account, I was required to put in the admin password But when I go back and read the intructions for the disable gadgets fix it tool, it says to click the tool, then select run, nothing saing you can save it to desktop first My question, Since I saved it to the desktop first BEFORE running the tool, does that mess anything up as far as the function of the fix it to disable gadgets?

I mean do I maybe miss some function of the fix it process because I saved it the desktop first rather than running it directly? Also after running the fix it and after rebooting , I deleted the fix it from my desktop. Is that ok? Lexus Chasseur de Spyware 7. If your Gadgets are gone, you should be fine. Calls, If you like the analog clock, as I do, then since it gets its data from the system clock I can not envisage any reason why it should be any more of a risk to you than the system clock itself!

To Lexus- So saving it to desktop first shouldn't be a problen, eh? Also I use Vista Home premium 32 bit wth Vista SP 2 Besides the fact that side bar gadgets no longer load when I reboot, is there another easy way to check and make sure it is disabled? As I said, none of the gadgets we use were that important to us. I do agree that this is probably more of a marketing ploy than a security issue though.

Calls, I think you are being overly cautious - but You could use the other Fit-It button to restore your Gadgets and Sidebar, then after ensuring that they work, use the Fix-It button to disable it in whatever way will ease your mind.

I like an analog clock since it is much quicker to read! Strange but true I think I''m making more of it than needed. I'd hate to make it into a bigger problem cause I'' screwing a round with it. Plus if they say one can download it onto a flash drive and run it on other machines, well thats pretty much the same as downloading it on the desktop and run it from there, right? Gadget version: 9.
