It's not clear from the above whether you want it or want to avoid it! Well I'm not sure myself. Here is my concern. If Microsoft recommends it be disabled for security reasons, how would the average user know that? I only know about it because the post here. If it is such a big security issues, shouldn't it be a security update? In Microsoft answers, there is a response from a microsoft staff about it coming as an update. But as I say, I have updates set for check everyday and have reived no such update.
So again, how is the average user to know? Thats my biggest concern. Hu you said if you are not an average user, you have nothing to worry about But I am an average user whats real interesting is there is very little dialogue on the microsoft answers forums about this issue. I read about in the Microsoft Blogs If I knew for sure the security issue had to do with actual gadgets and not the side bar itself, I'd leave mine alone.
I have seen a kind of overview of whats being presented on this issue at the conference. Seems to indicate the side bar on its own will be a vulnerability. Guess we'll see what happens after that info is presented, as to what will be the safe course of action.

Calls, I think you are being overly cautious - but You could use the other Fit-It button to restore your Gadgets and Sidebar, then after ensuring that they work, use the Fix-It button to disable it in whatever way will ease your mind.
