Fast track pro converters

Whenever I set it up I have to futz with the USB cable to make a good connection for minutes usually. Sound-wise it's a great unit for most things. It's not "low-end" in sound but it's definitely not high-end either, just a nice balance.

Tell me exactly what you are trying to do. I'm guessing that the guy who asked the question has it figured by now as it was from February ! Anyway, I've had an FTU for 2 years. Never any problems and sounds great - although I've never used anything else so I can't compare!

I am considering the purchase of one at the moment, for one reason only; - it keeps coming up in my searches for the fastest round trip latency USB unit. Any comments on this? I did read somewhere in some thread that the super fast low latency mode had been removed in a later revision of the FTU driver. Does anybody now anything about this? As for the pres.. Yes, all my audiophile friends and professionals have advised me to go for something with betters pres, like the RME babyface or the about to be released balance from propellerheads.

Somebody posted above that even the Berhinger pres are better, well that really paints the m-audio in a bad light, but as is also noted above, getting on with making the music is more important than obsessing about the signal path clarity, at the end of the day I'm happy to work with the xenyx for the moment. Comments are seriously welcome now as I am going shopping next week!

Thanks Slutz! I'm also shopping, for similar reasons. My multi channel interface is a phonic 8 channel firewire rig. The converters are pretty damn good for the money, but the pres are kinda loud and lousy, and I only have four.

I also have a very nice Grace lunatec pre with great converters and a spdif out. I want to use this with an interface with spdif ins, to give me two kick ass channels--like the 'liquid' channels on focusrite gear.

I'm looking at firewire vs. For your situation, I think the value of improved workflow from low latency will trump the quality of the pres in the FTU. That said, I hate buying gear that I have to replace in a few years at a loss, unless I really use it all the time.

But, as you point out, the FTU has insert points, and digital ins what to buy? I think this would be the perfect firewire unit for my rig, but I'm flexible enough to get anything with 8 pres and digital ins What a pain. And here's the OP. I can live with the mediocre outputs including headphones.

The internal pre's suck, if you've ever used higher quality gear even like PreSonus gear. I like the low latency, the two headphone outs, and the comfort reverb of the FTU. I agree that the power cord is absolutely horrible. You have to basically not touch the FTU after you've plugged it in for fear that it might disconnect.

Hi, I am new here. Sorry to revive an old thread, but I was hoping someone could answer a question for me. I have a Fast Track Ultra which I have been using to record guitar just in my room, nothing too professional.

Recently I decided to try and get into singing and am planning on getting a vocal coach. I want to get a microphone to interface with the FTU for recording vocals. Have one. Love it, no problems. Have heard a lot of bad things about them but I've had a few interfaces and I consider it the best. Easier than FireWire. I used one exclusively the 8 channel 8R model for about a year and a half a couple years back and I had no issues with it.
